When do real last-minute deals appear?
Sandals occasionally releases discounted inventory in the 14-30 day window before departure when a property is undersold. This is most common at the lower-tier resorts (Sandals Negril, Sandals Halcyon Beach, Sandals Jamaica Ocho Rios) during shoulder months when occupancy gaps are largest. The trade-offs of waiting
Three real trade-offs come with waiting for last-minute. First, your room category is whatever is available; you do not get to pick a Skypool butler suite or an overwater bungalow last-minute, those sell out months ahead. Third, airfare typically goes up significantly in the 2-week window, often by enough to wipe out the resort savings.
When last-minute makes sense

For everyone else, booking 6-12 months out and stacking promos is the better play.

For clients booking honeymoons or anniversaries, I never wait for last-minute. I book 6-9 months out, lock the room category they want, and rely on the rebook-if-price-drops process (your travel agent can request a rate match if a better promo launches between deposit and final payment). For pure budget trips with no specific resort or room preference, last-minute is worth checking once every couple of weeks in the window. Otherwise, book early.
