Sandals & Beaches Review

Best Sandals Resort for Honeymooners: 2026 Top 5 Picks

Every Sandals resort is adults-only, so technically every Sandals is a honeymoon resort. But after sending hundreds of honeymooning couples to Sandals over the past decade I can tell you a few properties consistently outperform the rest for first-trip-after-the-wedding magic. Here are my 5 picks for 2026, each with a different reason why.

1. Sandals Royal Plantation (most exclusive)

Sandals Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios is the smallest and most exclusive Sandals in the chain: 74 ocean-view suites, every single one with butler service. The resort sits on a coral bluff between two private coves, which gives every honeymoon couple a sense of their own private hotel. There is no kids zone, no waterpark, no waterslide. Just gourmet restaurants, two beaches, a spa, and complimentary access to the Upton Estate Golf Course next door.

For the honeymoon angle: the property’s “Champagne Cellar” private dining room and the Le Papillon French restaurant both make sense for a honeymoon dinner that does not feel like a typical resort restaurant. The Plantation Villa (the only 3-bedroom suite) is the chain’s most romantic VIP setup if budget allows. Pricing typically runs $700-$1,200 per couple per night for the entry-level Plantation Suite.

2. Sandals Saint Vincent (newest overwater)

Sandals Saint Vincent opened in 2024 and is the newest Sandals in the entire chain. It includes overwater bungalows, the Overwater Serenity Wedding Chapel (the only one in the chain), and an unspoiled black-sand beach setting on a remote island most US couples have never visited. For honeymooners who want a “we are the only ones who have been here” story to tell, this is the pick.

The trade-off is access. Saint Vincent’s Argyle airport (SVD) has limited US nonstops, so most travelers connect through Miami or Saint Lucia. Plan a longer travel day. The reward is a property at full opening-year freshness with the most exclusive overwater inventory the chain has ever offered.

3. Sandals Grenada (most spectacular overwater)

Sandals Grenada on Pink Gin Beach was the chain’s first to introduce SkyPool Suites and remains its most architecturally ambitious property. The Over-the-Water Honeymoon Suites here are the largest in the chain, and the lagoon setting is dramatic in a way that the other 3 overwater Sandals resorts simply do not match.

Grenada is also one of the safest islands for hurricane-season travel because it sits south of the main storm corridor. If you are honeymooning in August, September, or October and want overwater bungalows, Grenada is the lowest-risk choice. Full overwater inventory in my Sandals overwater bungalows guide.

4. Sandals Royal Caribbean (most accessible overwater)

Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay is the easiest overwater honeymoon to plan from the US east coast: 90 minutes nonstop from Miami, 10 minutes from the airport to the resort. The Over-the-Water Honeymoon Bungalows sit on the resort’s private offshore island, accessed by complimentary water taxi. For couples with limited PTO who want the overwater photo without the long-haul travel day, this is the answer.

The British colonial design and the offshore-island setting make Royal Caribbean feel more secluded than its airport-adjacent location suggests. The 12 overwater suites total here are spread across 9 Honeymoon Bungalows and 3 larger Two-Bedroom Butler Villas. Full property breakdown in my Royal Caribbean overwater review.

5. Sandals Dunn’s River (newest in Jamaica)

Sandals Dunn’s River reopened in 2023 as the newest flagship Sandals in Jamaica. It is the only Sandals in Jamaica with a lazy river pool complex. It also has Sky Villa Rondovals (private rooftop suites with their own infinity pools) which are the most romantic rooms in the entire chain after the overwater bungalows. For couples who want a brand-new property in Jamaica with full exchange privileges to Sandals Ochi 10 minutes away, Dunn’s River is the pick.

Honeymoon perks every couple should claim

Regardless of which resort you pick, every Sandals stay within 6 months of your wedding date qualifies for the complimentary Sandals Honeymoon Package. It includes a champagne breakfast in bed, a candlelit dinner for two, sparkling wine on arrival, special turn-down service, a honeymoon certificate, and a free 25-minute couples massage. Add it at booking by uploading your marriage certificate. Full details in my Sandals honeymoon package guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Sandals resort is the most romantic?

For most couples, the most romantic Sandals is whichever has overwater bungalows: Sandals Grenada, Sandals Saint Vincent, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, or Sandals Royal Caribbean. For all-butler boutique romance without overwater, pick Sandals Royal Plantation.

How long should a Sandals honeymoon be?

7 nights is the sweet spot. It unlocks 7-7-7 deal pricing, lets you actually decompress (most couples need 2-3 days to wind down from wedding stress), and gives you time to use sister-resort exchange privileges if you book at one of the multi-resort islands. 5-6 night trips work but feel rushed. 10+ night trips are great but rarely cost-justify versus extending another vacation later.

How much does a Sandals honeymoon cost?

Budget honeymoons start around $2,500 per couple for 7 nights at Sandals Negril or Sandals Halcyon Beach in shoulder season, plus airfare. Mid-range honeymoons in butler suites typically run $5,000-$8,000 per couple. Overwater bungalow honeymoons range from $10,000 to $20,000+ per couple for 7 nights. For the lowest current rates, see my cheapest Sandals resort guide.

Do Sandals honeymooners get free upgrades?

Sometimes. The Sandals Honeymoon Package itself does not include a guaranteed room upgrade, but resort management often comps upgrades when occupancy allows. Booking through a Sandals Diamond Elite travel agent gives you the best shot at this because the agent can flag your honeymoon to the resort’s pre-arrival manager. Showing up midweek (Tuesday-Wednesday arrivals) also helps because lower midweek occupancy creates more upgrade availability.
