I am Jim, a Sandals Chairmanโs Royal Club Diamond Elite member who helps over 1,000 couples a year plan their Sandals getaway. Sandals Grande Antigua is the only Sandals in Antigua: 373 rooms across two distinct villages, the Caribbean Village (livelier, family-of-the-property feel) and the Mediterranean Village (quieter, more refined), all on the famous Dickenson Bay beach.
This is my full 2026 review of Sandals Grande Antigua: the beach, the rooms, the food, the pools, weddings and honeymoons, how it stacks up against the rest of the chain, and when to go for the best deal. You can check current rates and availability on Sandals.com if you want to compare while you read.
Quick take for 2026

Where Sandals Grande Antigua is and how to get there
Sandals Grande Antigua sits on Dickenson Bay on Antiguaโs northwest coast, about 30 minutes from V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU). Antigua is one of the easier Caribbean islands to fly to from the US, with nonstop service from JFK, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Newark, and Toronto.
The Sandals airport lounge is included on arrival: free drinks, snacks, fast-track immigration, and the dedicated shuttle to the resort. Dickenson Bay is genuinely one of the best beaches in the eastern Caribbean (regularly listed in beach rankings), and the resort occupies the prime central frontage of that beach. Full Antigua context lives in my Antigua vacation guide once published.
My take on the vibe at Sandals Grande Antigua
Grande Antigua is built as two villages connected by garden paths. The Caribbean Village (the original 1991 build) is the livelier half: pastel-painted Caribbean architecture, the main pool action, the iconic Rondoval Suites with their thatched-roof circular design. The Mediterranean Village (added later) is the quieter, more architectural half: white columns, manicured gardens, the upper-tier butler suites, and the Mediterranean Lobby that anchors the south end of the property.
The crowd here is split between honeymoons and milestone-anniversary couples (the Rondoval Suites are a major draw) plus repeat Sandals guests who picked Antigua specifically because they wanted to add the island to their list. Energy level is medium: the Caribbean Village pool gets lively in the afternoon, the Mediterranean Village stays mellow.
The resort feels like two resorts in one (similar to the Ochi beach-side / hillside split, but on flat land), which is the headline experience: you can pick your atmosphere by which village pool you walk to.
The beach
The Dickenson Bay beach is the entire reason this resort exists. About 1,000 feet of frontage, white-white sand (Antigua is famous for the brightest-white Caribbean sand), calm clear water, no rocks. The water shelf stays shallow far out, so you can wade 100 feet and still be standing. This is one of the calmest swimming beaches in the eastern Caribbean.
The resortโs beach footprint is divided between the two villages: the Caribbean Village beach is the busier social half (pool-adjacent, palapa shade, beach bar, watersports center). The Mediterranean Village beach is the quieter half (more loungers, butler beach service for upper categories). Sunset is across the bay; the western coast geography means the sun drops over the open Caribbean.
The reef offshore from Dickenson Bay is good and supports a basic shore-snorkel. The resort runs free shore-snorkel sessions daily plus snorkel-boat trips to outer reefs.
The pools and swim-up scene
Six pools and six whirlpools. The Caribbean Village main pool is the social hub of the resort by mid-afternoon; it has the swim-up bar and the daytime music. The Mediterranean Village pool is quieter, with a more refined cabana arrangement. Smaller plunge pools are scattered through both villages.
Worth knowing: Grande Antigua does NOT have OWBs or Crystal Lagoon-style mega-pools. The Rondoval Suites have private plunge pools (the closest equivalent here to a swim-up category). Detailed comparison of every Sandals swim-up category is in my Sandals swim-up suites guide.
The rooms (and which suite to book)
373 rooms across both villages and many categories. The marquee category at Grande Antigua is the iconic Rondoval Suite: freestanding circular thatched-roof villas with private plunge pools, butler service. The Rondovals are the most-photographed Antigua Sandals room and the only place in the chain you can book this specific architectural design.
- Best entry pick: Caribbean Honeymoon Walkout Club Level. Direct ground-floor patio, club lounge access, premium amenities. Roughly 30% above the basic Caribbean tier.
- Best mid-tier pick: Mediterranean Honeymoon Beachfront Butler Suite. Beachfront patio plus full butler service in the quieter village. Mid-$1,300s per night during shoulder season.
- Best splurge pick: Rondoval Honeymoon Butler Suite with Pool Sanctuary. Freestanding circular thatched-roof villa with private plunge pool, butler service. Mid-$1,800s per night during shoulder season.

Dining at Sandals Grande Antigua
11 specialty restaurants across the two villages. Reservations are not required at most venues; butler guests get reservations made for them.
- Bayside (modern Caribbean): the dinner reservation everyone tries to get. Beachfront patio, plate-style modern Caribbean.
- Soy Sushi Bar (sushi): casual sushi option, fresh sashimi.
- Barefoot by the Sea (Caribbean seafood, beachfront): catch-of-the-day spot with toes in the sand.
- Eleanorโs (international steakhouse): wood-fired meats, strong wine list.
- Kimonos (Japanese teppanyaki): chef-at-the-table show, reservations required.
- Marioโs (northern Italian): wood-fired pizza, plus the pasta course.
- Plus 5 more on top of that.
Seven bars total, including swim-up bars. Top-shelf liquor (Hendricks, Makerโs Mark, Patron Silver), unlimited Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wine, premium upgrades for butler-tier guests.
Activities, watersports, and whatโs included
The all-inclusive includes: PADI scuba (two boat dives a day, plus free Open Water certification), Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling, pickleball, and the fitness center. The dive operation accesses the Antigua reef system, which is healthier than most of the Jamaica reefs but not at the level of Grenada or Curacao.
For divers: Antiguaโs reef is solid. For chain-wide comparison see my best Sandals for scuba diving ranking. The chainโs strongest dive picks are still Sandals Grenada and Sandals Royal Curacao.
Off-resort excursions: Stingray City Antigua (the famous shallow-water stingray encounter, half-day), Nelsonโs Dockyard at English Harbour (the historical British naval site, half-day), Devilโs Bridge and the rainforest canopy zipline. All bookable through the resort.
Weddings, honeymoons, and proposals at Sandals Grande Antigua
Grande Antigua hosts a strong wedding calendar. Multiple ceremony venues across the two villages: beachfront on Dickenson Bay (most-photographed at sunset), Mediterranean Village garden chapel, the Rondoval thatched-roof private-villa ceremony for very small parties. The complimentary Sandals wedding package works the standard way: 3+ night stay and the standard ceremony is free for the host couple.
Vow renewals follow the same rule (see my Sandals vow renewal guide). For couples planning to propose first, the Dickenson Bay sunset is the most-requested proposal venue. See my Sandals proposal packages guide. Pair with the free honeymoon package and the free anniversary night on a return trip.
How Sandals Grande Antigua compares to its sister resorts
Grande Antigua is the only Sandals in Antigua, which simplifies the cross-island comparison. The headline differentiator is Dickenson Bay (one of the eastern Caribbeanโs best beaches) plus the iconic Rondoval Suites.
- vs. Sandals Grande St. Lucian: Grande St. Lucian has OWBs and Pitons backdrop. Grande Antigua has the better beach (Dickenson Bay) and the iconic Rondovals. Different room categories drive the choice.
- vs. Sandals Grenada: Grenada is one island south, with stronger diving and a more boutique feel. Grande Antigua has the bigger property and the better beach.
- vs. Sandals Royal Bahamian: Royal Bahamian is closer to the US (50 minutes from Miami) with a private offshore island. Grande Antigua has the better Caribbean beach.
- vs. Sandals Saint Vincent: Saint Vincent is the newest Sandals overall (March 2024) with the largest OWB inventory. Grande Antigua is older but more established and has easier US flight access.

When to go and how to find a deal
The Grande Antigua shoulder season runs late April through mid-June and again late August through early November. Antigua sits in the eastern Caribbean hurricane corridor, but the island has a relatively dry climate compared to islands further north and the late shoulder is typically usable. Peak winter (December through April) is the most expensive window; January through March is the deepest peak.
Grande Antigua participates fully in the Sandals deal calendar. Sandals 7-7-7 sales (January, April, October) typically deliver 35-45% off rack rate. Black Friday usually adds another 5-10%. Stack the free anniversary night, the 10% military and first-responder discount, and the free honeymoon package for combined discounts of 50-55% off rack rate. Rondoval Suite category discounts less aggressively; book those early during Black Friday. Full deal-timing playbook in my best Sandals deals guide.
My verdict for 2026
Sandals Grande Antigua is the right Sandals for couples who want the famous Dickenson Bay beach plus the option to pick between two distinct village vibes on a single booking. The Rondoval Suites, the easy 30-minute airport transfer, the better-than-most-Sandals beach quality.
- Book Sandals Grande Antigua if you: want one of the best beaches in the eastern Caribbean, want a Rondoval Suite (the only Sandals where this category exists), want two distinct village atmospheres on one booking, are repeat Sandals guests adding Antigua to your list
- Skip Sandals Grande Antigua if you: want OWBs (book Sandals Saint Vincent or Sandals Grande St. Lucian), want the deepest dining variety (book Sandals Ochi), or want the closest US airport (book Sandals Royal Bahamian)
