I am Jim, a Sandals Chairman’s Royal Club Diamond Elite member who helps over 1,000 couples a year plan their Sandals getaway. Sandals Ochi is the largest Sandals in the chain (515 rooms, 17 restaurants, the famous Speakeasy), built as two resorts in one with a beachfront village and a hillside butler-villa village.
This is my full 2026 review of Sandals Ochi: the beach, the rooms, the food, the pools, weddings and honeymoons, how it stacks up against the rest of the chain, and when to go for the best deal. You can check current rates and availability on Sandals.com if you want to compare while you read.
Quick take for 2026
- Where: Main Street, Ocho Rios, between Dunn’s River Falls and Mystic Mountain
- Rooms: 515 rooms across beachside village + hillside butler-villa village
- Airport: Sangster International (MBJ), 105-minute Sandals transfer east
- Best for: couples wanting maximum dining variety, golf-curious travelers, first-time Sandals visitors who want one resort that contains everything, repeat guests upgrading to a butler villa
- Skip if: you want the most peaceful resort (book South Coast or Royal Plantation), want overwater bungalows (book Royal Caribbean, South Coast, or Saint Vincent), or want the best beach in the chain (book Negril)
- My rating: 4.6 out of 5 (the best ‘one resort that has everything’ Sandals)
Where Sandals Ochi is and how to get there
Sandals Ochi sits on Main Street in Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast, walking distance from the famous Dunn’s River Falls. The 105-minute Sandals transfer from Sangster International (MBJ) feels long, but it puts you in the busiest tourism zone in Jamaica with all the off-resort excursions (Mystic Mountain, the bobsled run, the chocolate plantation tour, plus Dunn’s River itself) within 15 minutes.
Flights into MBJ have nonstop options from most US east coast hubs and Toronto. The Sandals airport lounge is included on arrival. Worth knowing: there is a smaller airport in Ocho Rios (Ian Fleming International, OCJ) that some private charters use, but commercial flights all route through MBJ. Full Jamaica context lives in my Jamaica vacation guide.
My take on the vibe at Sandals Ochi
Ochi is the biggest Sandals in the chain at 515 rooms, but it does not feel that big in any one spot because it is built as two resorts in one. The beachfront village (originally the Sandals Grande Riviera Beach Side) is the social, beachy half: pools, swim-up bars, the lazy river, the main dining venues. The hillside village (originally the Riviera Mountain Side, now all butler villas) is the quieter, more residential half: butler villas with private patios and Jamaica-Blue-Mountain views. Free shuttles connect the two halves every 15 minutes.
The crowd here is the most varied of any Jamaica Sandals: honeymoons, milestone anniversaries, golf groups, repeat Sandals veterans testing the new butler villas, first-time Sandals couples who picked the property because they wanted one resort that contained everything. The 17-restaurant lineup means even on a 7-night stay you will not eat at every venue.
Energy level is medium-high. The Speakeasy lounge runs late, the lobby bar has live entertainment most evenings, the beachfront pool DJs run the daytime music. Plenty of quiet pockets exist (the hillside butler villas are genuinely peaceful), but the beachfront half is the busiest Sandals atmosphere in Jamaica outside of Sandals Dunn’s River.
The beach
Ochi’s beach is the trade-off of this resort. It is a private cove, white sand, swimmable, but it is the smallest beach footprint of the major Jamaica Sandals (about 500 feet of frontage compared to Negril’s 1,200 feet or South Coast’s 2 miles). The Ochi Beach Club at the south end of the cove is the main beach hangout, with butler-staffed loungers, palapa shade, and a beach bar.
Most Ochi guests do not use the beach as the primary daily activity the way Negril or South Coast guests do. The pool complex (105 pools claimed by Sandals’ counting; in practice the main lazy-river pool plus 5-6 plunge pools across the property) is where most of the day plays out. Worth knowing: snorkel boats and scuba boats leave from the beach pier, so the beach does see steady morning boat traffic.
The pools and swim-up scene
Sandals counts 105 pools at Ochi. That number includes every plunge pool attached to a butler villa or skypool suite. The functional headcount is closer to 7-8 main pools plus 22 whirlpools across the property: the main beachfront pool with swim-up bar, the lazy river (the only one in the Jamaica Sandals lineup at the time of writing, though Dunn’s River has river pools now), the hillside-village quiet pool, the Sky Pool at the upper villas, plus the smaller cluster pools at each butler-villa courtyard.
Three swim-up bars, including the Skypool bar at the upper villas which has the best Ocho Rios sunset view. The lazy river is the family-friendly equivalent in this adults-only setting: drift around with a drink for an hour, the only Sandals where you can do that. Detailed comparison of every Sandals swim-up category is in my Sandals swim-up suites guide.
The rooms (and which suite to book)
515 rooms across two villages and many categories. The honest math: most couples should book based on which half of the resort they want.
- Best entry pick (beachside): Riviera Honeymoon Hideaway Junior Suite. Ground-floor patio, garden setting, the entry tier on the beachy half.
- Best mid-tier pick (beachside): Skypool Butler Suite. Private elevated plunge pool patio, butler service, Sky Pool views. Mid-$1,200s per night during shoulder season.
- Best splurge pick (hillside): Mountain Top Two-Story Butler Villa. Private 2-story butler villa with plunge pool, Jamaica-Blue-Mountain view, included golf cart for in-resort transit. Mid-$1,800s per night during shoulder season.
- Top-end pick: Sandals Estate Two-Bedroom Butler Villa. Genuine private mansion with plunge pool, separate dining and living rooms, the most space of any Sandals room category. $3,500+ per night peak.
Worth knowing: Ochi does NOT have overwater bungalows. If OWB is the priority, see Sandals Saint Vincent or Sandals Grande St. Lucian. For the broader Club Level vs Butler decision, see Sandals Club Level vs Butler.
Dining at Sandals Ochi
17 specialty restaurants. This is the deepest restaurant lineup in the chain. Reservations are not required at most venues; butler guests get reservations made for them.
- Butch’s Chophouse (steakhouse): the dinner reservation everyone tries to get. Wood-fired meats, jacket-encouraged for dinner, strong wine list.
- Soy Sushi Bar (sushi): the casual sushi option, fresh sashimi.
- Kelly’s Dockside (Caribbean seafood, beachfront): the catch-of-the-day lunch spot with toes in the sand.
- Valentino’s (northern Italian): wood-fired pizza is the standout, plus the pasta course.
- Tokyo Joe’s (Japanese teppanyaki): chef-at-the-table show. Reservations required.
- Jerk Shack (Jamaican jerk and street food): the lunch staple, beachfront, smoky and authentic.
- Patois (French): white-tablecloth, dress-code dinner.
- Rabbit Hole (Speakeasy lounge): not a restaurant per se, but the marquee bar program. Walk through the bookcase, craft cocktails in the dim red-velvet room. The most photographed bar in the Jamaica Sandals lineup.
- Plus 9 more on top of that.
11 bars total, including three swim-up bars. Top-shelf liquor is genuinely top-shelf, unlimited Robert Mondavi Twin Oaks wine, premium upgrades for butler-tier guests.
Activities, watersports, and what’s included
The all-inclusive includes the chain’s standard set: PADI scuba (two boat dives a day, plus free Open Water certification), Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling, glass-bottom boats, tennis, pickleball, and the fitness center. Plus included green fees at the nearby Upton Estate Golf and Country Club (a 9-hole / 18-tee Sandals-owned course about 15 minutes inland by complimentary shuttle). Ochi is the only Jamaica Sandals where golf is part of the standard all-inclusive (along with Royal Plantation and Dunn’s River through Stay at 1, Play at 3).
For divers: Ochi’s reef is decent but the busy Ocho Rios harbor traffic is noticeable. South Coast or Sandals Grenada are stronger dive picks. For chain-wide comparison see my best Sandals for scuba diving ranking.
Off-resort excursions: Dunn’s River Falls (15 minutes), Mystic Mountain (bobsled run + zipline + chairlift, 10 minutes), Konoko Falls (the quieter alternative to Dunn’s River). All bookable through the resort.
Weddings, honeymoons, and proposals at Sandals Ochi
Ochi hosts the highest wedding volume of any Jamaica Sandals. Multiple ceremony venues across the two villages: beachfront on the cove, Sky Pool elevated platform with mountain backdrop, Tea House garden venue, lobby chapel for indoor backup. The complimentary Sandals wedding package works the standard way: 3+ night stay and the standard ceremony is free for the host couple.
Vow renewals follow the same rule (see my Sandals vow renewal guide). The Sky Pool venue at sunset is the most-photographed Ochi wedding setup. For couples planning to propose first (the lazy river or the Speakeasy are both popular proposal spots), see my Sandals proposal packages guide. Pair with the free honeymoon package and the free anniversary night on a return trip.
How Sandals Ochi compares to its sister resorts
Ochi sits in the splurge tier of the Jamaica Sandals lineup, mostly because of the butler-villa pricing on the hillside half. The headline differentiator is scale: this is the deepest dining lineup, the deepest activity lineup, and the largest property in the chain.
- vs. Sandals Royal Plantation: the immediate sister property, walking distance up the road. Royal Plantation is all-butler boutique (74 suites). Ochi is the giant variety play. Stay at 1, Play at 3 lets you split between Ochi, Royal Plantation, and Dunn’s River.
- vs. Sandals Dunn’s River: Dunn’s River is the newest Jamaica flagship (2023), most-modern rooms. Ochi has the deeper dining lineup and the established butler villas. Both are Ocho Rios area, 15 minutes apart.
- vs. Sandals Negril: Negril has Seven Mile Beach (genuinely the best). Ochi has 17 restaurants and the lazy river. Different vacations entirely.
- vs. Sandals Montego Bay: Montego Bay has the closer airport and the lower entry price. Ochi has the variety.

When to go and how to find a deal
The Ochi shoulder season runs late April through mid-June and again late August through early November. Shoulder gives you the deeper deal stack and lighter occupancy at the bigger property. Peak winter (December through April) is the most expensive window; January through March is the deepest peak. Spring break (mid-March) is the busiest single window because of how popular Ochi is with younger Sandals guests.
Ochi participates fully in the Sandals deal calendar. Sandals 7-7-7 sales (January, April, October) typically deliver 35-45% off rack rate. Black Friday usually adds another 5-10%. Stack the free anniversary night, the 10% military and first-responder discount, and the free honeymoon package for combined discounts of 50-55% off rack rate. The hillside butler villas discount less aggressively; book those early during Black Friday. Full deal-timing playbook in my best Sandals deals guide.
My verdict for 2026
Sandals Ochi is the right Sandals for couples who want one resort that contains everything. 17 restaurants. 11 bars. The lazy river. The Speakeasy. Included golf at Upton Estate. Two villages so you can pick your atmosphere. It is the chain’s variety pick.
- Book Sandals Ochi if you: want maximum dining and bar variety, are golf-curious (included green fees at Upton Estate), are first-time Sandals visitors who want one resort that has everything, are upgrading to a butler villa for a milestone trip, want the lazy river or the Speakeasy specifically
- Skip Sandals Ochi if you: want the most peaceful resort (Sandals South Coast or Sandals Royal Plantation), want overwater bungalows (Sandals Saint Vincent, Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Sandals Royal Caribbean), want the best beach in the chain (Sandals Negril), or want the closest airport (Sandals Montego Bay)
