Where Sandals Royal Bahamian is and how to get there
Sandals Royal Bahamian sits on Cable Beach on Nassau’s western coast, about 25 minutes from Lynden Pindling International (NAS). Nassau is the closest major Caribbean airport to the US: 50 minutes flight time from Miami, 90 minutes from Atlanta, 2 hours from JFK or Newark. This is the easiest Caribbean Sandals for short trips and same-day arrivals.
NAS has the densest Caribbean nonstop network: every major US east-coast hub plus several southern hubs (Charlotte, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando) plus all the major Canadian gateways. The Sandals airport lounge is included on arrival. Worth knowing: the property reopened in 2022 after a $50M+ renovation, so even guests who stayed at the older Royal Bahamian will not recognize the new layout. My take on the vibe at Sandals Royal Bahamian
Royal Bahamian is the Bahamas Sandals after a complete reset. The 2022 reopening rebuilt almost everything: new Crystal Lagoon mega-pool, new room interiors across all categories, new restaurant lineup with two food trucks (the chain’s first food-truck program), new offshore-island infrastructure including additional cabanas and a swim-up bar. The whole property reads modern Caribbean rather than 1990s-Bahamas-resort.
The crowd here skews short-trip US couples (the 50-minute Miami flight makes it the easiest Sandals for 3-and 4-night trips) plus repeat Sandals guests who wanted to test the new build. Energy level is medium-high: the Crystal Lagoon mega-pool gets lively in the afternoon, the offshore island stays calmer, the lobby bar and the new food trucks keep the property programmed in the evening.
The headline geography is the private offshore island (Sandals Cay), accessed by complimentary water taxi running every 30 minutes. The island has its own swim-up bar pool, a cabana cluster, and a longer quieter beach than the main resort beach.
The beach
Two beaches. The main Cable Beach frontage at Royal Bahamian is about 700 feet of white sand with calm clear water (Bahamas water clarity is genuinely the best in the Sandals chain because of the shallow sandy ocean shelf). The private offshore Sandals Cay island has another 800 feet of beach with the same water quality but quieter atmosphere.
The water taxi to Sandals Cay runs every 30 minutes from 9 AM to sunset, included in the all-inclusive. Most guests split their day: morning on the main beach where the watersports center is, afternoon on Sandals Cay for the quieter sand and the offshore island swim-up bar pool. The reef offshore from both beaches is healthy and supports a strong shore-snorkel program.
The pools and swim-up scene
Seven pools and five whirlpools. The marquee is the rebuilt Crystal Lagoon mega-pool, which is genuinely the chain’s largest single pool footprint after the 2022 expansion. Multiple zones, swim-up bars, swim-up suite walkouts. Plus the offshore island swim-up bar pool, plus smaller plunge pools attached to upper-tier suites.

404 rooms across all-new room interiors after the 2022 renovation. Categories range from the entry tier (Caribbean Beachfront Walkout) up through the top-end (Royal Suite Penthouse with rooftop plunge pool).

Dining at Sandals Royal Bahamian
10 specialty restaurants on the resort plus two food trucks (the chain’s first food-truck program: Bahamian conch fritters and crepes). Reservations are not required at most venues; butler guests get reservations made for them.
- Spices (modern Caribbean): the dinner reservation everyone tries to get. Plate-style modern Caribbean using local Bahamian spices.
- Soy Sushi Bar (sushi): casual sushi option, fresh sashimi.
- Butch’s Chophouse (steakhouse): wood-fired meats, jacket-encouraged for dinner, strong wine list.
- Cucina Romana (northern Italian): wood-fired pizza, plus the pasta course.
- Kimonos (Japanese teppanyaki): chef-at-the-table show, reservations required.

Activities, watersports, and what’s included
The all-inclusive includes: PADI scuba (two boat dives a day, plus free Open Water certification), Hobie Cats, paddleboards, kayaks, snorkeling, pickleball, tennis, and the fitness center. The dive operation accesses the Bahamas reef system, which is genuinely the chain’s best for water clarity (the Bahamas shallow shelf gives 80+ foot visibility on most dive days).

Royal Bahamian hosts a strong wedding calendar. Multiple ceremony venues: beachfront on Cable Beach (sunset photo), private offshore island Sandals Cay (the marquee water-taxi-arrival ceremony), Crystal Lagoon poolside (elevated venue alternative). When to go and how to find a deal
The Royal Bahamian shoulder season runs late April through mid-June and again late August through early November. The Bahamas sits in the Atlantic hurricane corridor; the late-shoulder August-November window has higher hurricane risk than the southern Caribbean Sandals (Grenada, Saint Lucia, Barbados). Peak winter (December through April) is the most expensive window; January through March is the deepest peak.
Royal Bahamian participates fully in the Sandals deal calendar. Sandals 7-7-7 sales (January, April, October) typically deliver 35-45% off rack rate. Black Friday usually adds another 5-10%. Stack the free anniversary night, the 10% military and first-responder discount, and the free honeymoon package for combined discounts of 50-55% off rack rate. The 2022 renovation rebuilt the property into one of the chain’s most-modern Bahamas experiences, and the private offshore island plus the Crystal Lagoon mega-pool give it room-and-pool variety beyond what most newer Sandals offer.
